In other non-related news. I (Erin... like Jeff actually posts on here) have a job interview tomorrow! It all happened kind of suddenly, we just started talking about me looking for a job last week and initially I was only looking for a part time job, but I found an open case worker position and it sounds like it might be right up my alley. So, I'm not sure I'm ready to leave H and go back to work, but after going on 6 months of unemployment - staying home might be a luxury for right now. I don't know if you are ever ready to leave your child and go back to work, but at least if I get a job this summer both grandmas can watch H while I'm at work and Jeff is job hunting. So, please pray for me tomorrow and for for our family as we are hopefully transitioning out of unemployment soon. I'll keep you posted.

old things new

I've been saving H's old wipe boxes to turn into toy boxes. H has a bunch of little toys - rattles, teethers, keys, links, etc. and I figured they needed a better home than strewn across the living room floor. So, here's what I did:

First, I soaked the boxes in hot soapy water to get rid of the wipe smell.

Then, I traced the sides of the box and made a pattern for the sides and top.

Then, I traced the pattern on the back of a sheet of scrapbook paper and cut it out.

Then, I applied the paper to the box using a layer of Mod Podge and let it dry.

After it was dry, I put a layer of glossy Mod Podge over all of the paper and once it dried I applied a second layer.

And Viola! new toy boxes instead of old wipe boxes. H has already figured out that all of his toys are in there and loves to take his toys out and put them back in... or at least try.





Also, stay tuned for another furniture project. I found a GREAT coffee table at the Salvation Army. It is just desperately in need of some paint, or a stain... I can't decide which. I've never stained anything and it seems kind of complicated?

blaaaah

That's kind of how life has been around here the last few days. I am taking H to the doctor today because I can't figure out what is wrong with him. He got his 6 month shots last Thursday and was running a really high fever Friday and Saturday. I was going to take him into the doctor Sunday morning, but then his fever dropped and he seemed to be his normal self. Then yesterday he started sounding kind of stuffy and now today he has a full blown coughing, sneezing, snotty faced cold.
I feel so bad for him, he clearly doesn't feel good. Hopefully, the doctor will say something besides "It's just a cold, wait it out." He's been waking up for hours in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep. He went to bed at 6 pm last night but then was up from 10-11 pm. and 2:30-4:30 am.
Oh, and about the meat eating pictures...well, I got them about 3 seconds before he threw up. I'm not sure if it was the texture of the meat or if it really was that gross. I'll be waiting a couple weeks before I try that one again.

Blowing bubbles

Here's a video of H talking, blowing raspberries (his new favorite sound), and squealing after lunch one day.

The doctor said that he is the size of a 9 month old! He's going to be a BIG boy, in the 90% percentile. Everything looks good though and we got the green light for all kids of food, so I'll take some pictures of him eating meat in a couple days. Until then, enjoy!

Happy Half Birthday

Today is H's half birthday! I can't believe he is 6 months old already! To celebrate he wore his m&m socks from grandma... well, he wore them for about 10 minutes before he figured out how to pull them off.

Here is H playing with some stacking cups. He cracks me up how excited he gets about new toys. It is really fun to see him so engaged with the world around him these days. Enjoy!

I'm a big kid now

I didn't expect this transition to happen so fast...seemingly overnight almost, from a happy, little baby to an opinionated, LOUD, big boy. Yesterday, he started refusing his bottle. He has been eating cereal but we've been holding off on other baby foods until his 6 month appointment (this Thursday) to get the go ahead from the pediatrician to start him on solid foods. Well, not only has he quit taking a bottle, but he only wants what we are eating and has started to scream when he wants something or doesn't want something. So, we started baby food a few days early and he is now drinking out of a sippy cup! When did my little baby get to be such a big boy?
